The Design

The obverse reproduces the “Winged Liberty” created by Adolph A. Weinman and originally featured in the Mercury Dime. It consists of a left-profile bust of Lady Liberty wearing a winged Phrygian cap. 

The image includes the word “LIBERTY” engraved on top, the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST,” the artist's initials, the year of mintage, and the “W” mint mark from the West Point branch. 

Weinman also created the reverse design, which is his version of the 1907 American Institute of Architects Gold Medal reverse. The image showcases a Bald Eagle perched on a cliff edge, holding a branch.

The inscriptions on this side are “UNITED STATES of AMERICA,” “$25,” describing the coin’s face value, “1 OZ Pd .9995 FINE,” referring to weight, metal content, and purity, and the motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM.”

Because it is a reverse-proof coin, it displays frosted background fields while the design elements have a mirror-like luster.
