2018-W 1 oz American Silver Eagle Burnished Coin with Box and COA

US Silver Eagle is a masterpiece of design and craftsmanship. The US Mint produces US Silver Eagles containing 1 Troy oz of 99.9% fine silver in bullion, proof and burnished versions.

In addition to the beloved Walking Liberty design created by Adolph A. Weinman, its reverse displays the iconic Heraldic Eagle, designed by John Mercanti, representing peace and strength, two founding ideals of the United States.

These US Silver Eagles, in particular, are Burnished coins minted at the West Point branch and bear the “W” mint mark. The blanks used in their making underwent a special treatment process called burnishing, which cleans them from undesired oxides, resulting in a matte finish with more vivid design details.

At SD Bullion, 2018-W 1 oz Burnished American Silver Eagles are housed in an original mint box and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.

The Design

The obverse reproduces Lady Liberty folded in the American flag as she walks with an outstretched arm and carrying oak branches in the other.

It also showcases the word “LIBERTY,” the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST,” the “W” West Point mint mark, and the year of issuance.

The reverse features the Heraldic Eagle beneath 13 stars, representing the Thirteen Original Colonies. The Eagle has the National Shield on its chest, arrows and olive branches in its talons, and a banner with "E PLURIBUS UNUM" in its beak. 

The inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ FINE SILVER," and "ONE DOLLAR" refer to face value, weight, metal content, and purity.

Burnished Coins

A Burnished American Eagle Coin results from a “burnishing” process, hence the name. It essentially means that the blanks are cleaned from all oxides formed during the annealing and rimming process. This way, burnished coins get a satin look and a smooth surface but less reflective luster than the Proof version.
