The Mexican Mint, known as La Casa de Moneda de México, is not only the official mint of Mexico, but is also one of the oldest operational mints in the American continent. Its origin dates back to 1535 – when the Spanish Viceroy founded the mint under a decree passed by the Spanish Crown at the time. The Gold Libertads were modelled after the famed Gold Centenario Coins and feature the same, familiar designs.

Each of these coins is struck using 1/4 troy ounces of 0.999 pure gold. Moreover, their gold purity and weight is guaranteed by the Banco de Mexico -- Mexico's National Bank. Gold Libertads are renowned for their beautiful designs, quality striking, and extremely limited mintages. Obverses of these coins display a gorgeous rendition of the Winged Victoria -- a symbol of Mexican pride, representing their struggle for independence and freedom. The angel is portrayed perched atop the Mexican Independence Victory Column. Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuat, the two Mexican volcanoes, are seen in the background of this image, adding atwo more iconic symbols of Mexico into the mix.
