Commemorating the 225th anniversary of the United States Mint, the Mint has released a unique 2017-P American Liberty Silver Medal with an attractive proof finish. Iconic American imagery is imprinted on both sides of this medal.


The United States Mint was founded in 1792, in Philadelphia. In fact, it was one of the first establishments created by the newly formed American government. Over the course of 225 years, the US Mint has gained global recognition due to a continuous stream of quality products.


Each of these American Liberty Silver Medals with proof finish contains 1 troy ounce of 0.999 pure silver. However, unlike American Silver Eagles, these medals do not carry a legal tender value (face value).


An image depicting a Bald Eagle soaring elegantly graces the reverses of these silver medals. Conceptualized by artist Chris T. Costello and engraved by Michael Gaudioso, the portrayal’s level of detail is simply breathtaking. In addition to the Philadelphia Mint’s ‘P’ mint mark, the initials of the artist (CTC) and engraver (MG) are also imprinted on this side.


The depiction of Lady Liberty as an African American woman on the obverses signifies the significant strides America has taken over the past 225 years.
