2016-Y NGC PF-70 3-gram Chinese Bi-Met Honolulu HSNA Show Gold-Silver Coin
In 2016, China minted a limited series of Show Pandas exclusively for the Hawaii State Numismatic Association’s 53rd Coin Show in Honolulu. This release included a unique set of three pandas featuring weights that had never been issued previously.
One of the coins is a bi-metal tenth-ounce piece containing 3 grams of gold and 1.5 grams of silver, enhanced by a proof finish, in a limited strike of 1,000 samples.
The designs drew inspiration from the renowned 1949 Sweichow Bamboo Dollar, a rare coin the Republic of China issued with three bamboo leaf stems. Minted during the peak of the Chinese Civil War, many of these coins were either buried for safekeeping and subsequently lost or melted down and repurposed by Mao Zedong's Communist forces after they compelled Chiang Kai-shek’s government to retreat to Taiwan.
Today, you can acquire the 2016-Y 3-gram Chinese Bi-Met Honolulu HSNA Show Gold-Silver Coins at SD Bullion, graded as PF-70 coins by NGC.
