2014-P NGC SP-70 5 oz America The Beautiful Arches Burnished Silver Coin

The America The Beautiful Quarter Program comprises 56 silver coins. During the program, the US Mint prepared annual strikes for five quarter-dollar coins, weighing 5 Troy ounces of 99.9% fine silver, featuring iconic American parks, monuments, and forests.

The Arches Silver Coin is the series' third release of the 2014 edition and the 23rd overall.

Located in Utah, Arches National Park is a red rock wonderland featuring a landscape of contrasting colors, landforms, and textures unlike any other in the world. It has over 2,000 natural stone arches, hundreds of soaring pinnacles, massive fins, and giant balanced rocks.

These particular coins are burnished samples with the “P” mint mark, indicating the Philadelphia Mint issued them.

SD Bullion offers 2014-P 5 oz America The Beautiful Arches Burnished Silver Coins, sealed and certified by NGC as perfect SP-70 coins.

  • Issued in the Philadelphia Mint and bears the “P” mint mark;
  • Contains 5 oz of .999 fine silver;

  • Holds a USD 0.25 face value and legal tender status;
  • The standard obverse design showcases George Washington’s bust;
  • The reverse features the Arches National Park.

The Design

The obverse depicts George Washington's bust, designed by John Flanagan in 1932. This design is inspired by the official effigy of the former President created by William Cousins in 1786.

It also features the inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and “QUARTER DOLLAR.” The “P” mint mark from the Philadelphia Mint is on the lower right.

The reverse showcases the Delicate Arch, a 65-foot natural arch standing alone, an iconic landmark in Utah, renowned as the park's most famous arch. It has appeared on postage stamps and license plates and served as a highlight during the Olympic torch relay for the 2002 Winter Olympics. The backdrop includes views of the La Sal Mountains.

The image is encircled by "ARCHES," "UTAH," "E PLURIBUS UNUM," and “2014.”

Burnished Coins

A Burnished Coin results from a “burnishing” process, hence the name. It essentially means that the blanks are cleaned from all oxides formed during the annealing and rimming process. This way, burnished coins get a satin look and a smooth surface but less reflective luster than the Proof version.

An NGC SP-70 Coin

NGC (Numismatic Guaranty Company) is globally renowned for appraising and certifying coins according to the Sheldon Scale, which ranks coins from 1 to 70.

SP-70 stands for Specimen-70, which describes a hybrid between Mint State and Proof with absolutely no imperfections.
