2012 PCGS MS-69 PL 5 oz America The Beautiful Acadia Silver Coin - John Mercanti Label

The America The Beautiful Quarter Program, a notable project by the US Mint, issued 56 captivating silver coins from 2010 to 2021.

Each year of the program, the US Mint produced five quarter-dollar coins, each containing 5 Troy ounces, featuring America's most iconic natural and historical landmarks.

The Acadia Silver Coin, released as the third coin of 2012 and the 13th in the series, highlights Acadia National Park. Established in 1916, Acadia became the first national park east of the Mississippi River, thanks to early 20th-century visionaries who donated the land on Maine's rugged coast, where the tallest mountain on the U.S. Atlantic Coast stands.

John M. Mercanti, the 12th Chief Engraver of the US Mint, created numerous designs for US circulating, commemorative, and bullion coins, including the original reverse of the Silver Eagles. In 2021, he was recognized as one of the most influential figures in numismatics.

The 2012 5 oz America The Beautiful Acadia Silver Coins, graded as MS-69 PL coins and sealed in PCGS slabs with the exclusive John Mercanti Label, are available for purchase at SD Bullion.

The Design

The accompanying inscriptions read “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and “QUARTER DOLLAR.”

The reverse showcases a view of the Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse and Acadia's rough coastline, including the lighthouse, pine trees, and the ocean. The engravings on this side read: “ACADIA,” “MAINE,” “2012,” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM.”

A PCGS MS-69 PL Coin

Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) works independently of sovereign mints. It evaluates and grades coins using the Sheldon Grading Scale, which rates coins from 1 to 70 according to their condition.

MS stands for Mint State. Mint State coins are shaped as business coins. Grade 69 is attributed to coins whose flaws are almost invisible.

PL refers to a Proof-like finish, describing coins that exhibit mirrored fields that resemble Proof coins but are actually bullion coins.
