The Lunar Series is one of the most traditional coin collections produced by the Australian Perth Mint. It crafts gold and silver coins of varied sizes and finishes according to the Chinese Lunar Calendar. 

2012 marked the Year of the Dragon. Therefore, the Australian Perth Mint released 10 silver coins, each weighing 1 Troy oz and in different colors, paying tribute to the dragon, the fifth zodiac sign from the Chinese Lunar Calendar.

The Design

Each reverse side displays a unique Dragon belonging to the Chinese Culture in a different color, its corresponding Chinese character, and the “P” mint mark identifying the Perth Mint.

Because they are proof coins, their surfaces exhibit a mirror-like luster, making an interesting contrast with the frosted design elements.
