2011-W NGC MS-70 1 oz American Gold Eagle Burnished Coin
The American Eagle Program debuted in the bullion market in 1986, introducing Silver and Gold American Eagle Coins.
These 2011-W Gold Eagles are the burnished edition, minted at the West Point branch, and carry the “W” mint mark. Burnished Gold Eagles undergo a special treatment process that polishes the blanks and cleans them from undesired oxides. That results in a matte appearance with more vivid design details.
Today, 2011-W 1 oz Burnished American Gold Eagles, certified by NGC as MS-70 coins, are available for shopping at SD Bullion.

The Design
On the obverse, Lady Liberty strides forward, carrying a torch and an olive branch, as a symbol of the nation's evolution toward progress, peace, and enlightenment.
The Capitol Building, the word “LIBERTY,” and the coin’s mintage year complement the image. The “W” mint mark is on the right.
The reverse features a female eagle cherishing its hatchling under her wing while the male perches their nest.
It also contains information regarding weight, metal content, and face value described as “1 OZ. FINE GOLD—50 DOLLARS,” and the engravings “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and the mottos “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and “IN GOD WE TRUST.”
Burnished Coins
A Burnished American Eagle Coin results from a “burnishing” process, hence the name. It essentially means that the blanks are cleaned from all oxides formed during the annealing and rimming process. This way, burnished coins get a satin look and a smooth surface but less reflective luster than Proof American Eagles.
An NGC MS-70 Coin
NGC (Numismatic Guaranty Company), like other third-party services, appraises coins using the Sheldon Scale, which ranks coins from 1 to 70, apart from sovereign mints.
MS stands for Mint State, indicating a coin crafted in the format of a business circulation coin. Since it has never been in circulation, the coin has no sign of wear, tear, or scratching, which grants it a 70 grade.
