2011 NGC MS-69 Early Releases 5 oz America the Beautiful Gettysburg Silver Coin

The initial success of the America The Beautiful Quarters Program’s premiere led to a second edition of its unique silver coins.

The US Mint released this five-ounce silver coin series in 2010 and ran it until 2021, delivering 56 silver coins showcasing America's most iconic national parks, monuments, and forests.

The second strike of the America The Beautiful Quarters Program began with the Gettysburg Silver Coin, the first release of 2011 and the sixth in the series.

Gettysburg Military National Park is in Pennsylvania. This park is home to the 72nd Pennsylvania Infantry Monument, which marked the Union Army's battle line in the pivotal Battle of Gettysburg during the Civil War.

At SD Bullion, you can acquire the 2011 5 oz America the Beautiful Gettysburg Silver Coin, purchased from the US Mint within the first 30 days of its official release, sealed and certified by NGC as MS-69 Early Releases coin.

Coin Highlights

  • Evaluated, encapsulated, and graded as an MS-69 coin by NGC;
  • Produced by the US Mint;
  • Contains 5 oz of .999 fine silver;
  • The first coin of the 2011 edition and the sixth of the series;
  • Purchased from the US Mint within the first 30 days of public release.
  • Holds a USD 0.25 face value and legal tender status;
  • The standard obverse design features George Washington’s bust;
  • The reverse features Gettysburg Military National Park.

The Design

The obverse side showcases a bust of George Washington, designed by John Flanagan in 1932, inspired by William Cousins' 1786 official effigy of the former President.

The inscriptions read "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "LIBERTY," "IN GOD WE TRUST," and "QUARTER DOLLAR."

The reverse depicts the Gettysburg National Monument, commemorating the significant Civil War battle and President Abraham Lincoln's famous 1863 address at Gettysburg's Soldiers National Cemetery.

The engravings read "GETTYSBURG," "PENNSYLVANIA," "2011," and "E PLURIBUS UNUM."

An NGC MS-69 “Early Releases” Coin

Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC) is globally acclaimed for evaluating and grading coins with the Sheldon Grading Scale, which rates coins from 1 to 70 based on their condition.

For NGC, “Early Releases” refer to coins purchased from the original mint within the first 30 days of their official release and taken to its appraisal.

MS stands for Mint State. Mint State coins are shaped as business coins. 69 is the grade attributed to coins whose flaws are almost invisible.
