The Design

The obverse features Lady Liberty, whose marches forward with a torch and an olive branch, represents the nation's progress toward peace and enlightenment.

On the reverse, designed by Miley Busiek, the female eagle cherishes her hatchling under her wing while the male perches on their nest. 

Inscriptions regarding weight, metal content, and face value are described as “1 OZ. FINE GOLD—50 DOLLARS.” The engravings “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and the mottos “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and “IN GOD WE TRUST” supplement the imagery.
