2010 NGC MS-69 Early Releases 5 oz America the Beautiful Yellowstone Silver Coin

Yellowstone was the second national park stamped on the America The Beautiful collection in 2010. The America The Beautiful Quarter Program consists of crafting five quarter dollar coins annually containing 5 Troy oz of 99.9% fine silver and America’s most iconic natural sites.

The Yellowstone Silver Coin was the second coin released in 2010 and also the second in the series.

Yellowstone National Park, located in Wyoming, was first established as a national site in 1872. It hosts a diverse array of wildlife, such as grizzly bears, wolves, bison, and elk. The park also preserves Old Faithful and a remarkable collection of the world’s most extraordinary geysers.

You can find the 2010 5 oz America the Beautiful Yellowstone Silver Coin, purchased from the US Mint within the first 30 days of their official release, sealed and certified by NGC as MS-69 Early Releases coins.

Coin Highlights

  • Evaluated, encapsulated, and graded as an MS-69 coin by NGC;
  • Produced by the US Mint;
  • Contains 5 oz of .999 fine silver;
  • The second coin of the series;
  • Purchased from the US Mint within the first 30 days of public release;
  • Holds a USD 0.25 face value and legal tender status;
  • The standard obverse design features George Washington’s bust;
  • The reverse features Yellowstone National Park.

The Design

The obverse displays George Washington's effigy, illustrated by John Flanagan in 1932. It was inspired by the former President’s official portrayal designed by William Cousins in 1786.

The inscriptions accompanying the effigy read “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and “QUARTER DOLLAR.”

The reverse showcases the Old Faithful geyser with a giant bull bison in the background. Inscriptions on this side read “GRAND CANYON,” “ARIZONA,” “2010,” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM.”

An NGC MS-69 “Early Releases” Coin

Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC) is globally acclaimed for evaluating and grading coins with the Sheldon Grading Scale, which rates coins from 1 to 70 based on their condition.

For NGC, “Early Releases” refer to coins purchased from the original mint within the first 30 days of their official release and taken to its appraisal.

MS stands for Mint State. Mint State coins are shaped as business coins. 69 is the grade attributed to coins whose flaws are almost invisible.
