2010 NGC MS-69 Early Releases 5 oz America the Beautiful Grand Canyon Silver Coin

The Grand Canyon was one of the motifs of the America The Beautiful collection debuting in 2010.

The America The Beautiful Quarter Program consists of delivering five silver coins annually weighing 5 Troy oz, with a USD 0.25 face value, featuring America’s natural treasures.

The Grand Canyon Silver Coin was the fourth coin released in 2010 and also the fourth in the America the Beautiful Quarters Program.

The Grand Canyon, located in Arizona, was first established as a national site in 1893. It is an expansive landscape stretching 277 river miles, reaching up to 18 miles wide and plunging a mile deep, providing breathtaking views.

At SD Bullion, you can find the 2010 5 oz America the Beautiful Grand Canyon Silver Coin, purchased from the US Mint within the first 30 days of their official release, sealed and certified by NGC as MS-69 Early Releases coins.

Coin Highlights

  • Evaluated, encapsulated, and graded as an MS-69 coin by NGC;
  • Produced by the US Mint;
  • Contains 5 oz of .999 fine silver;
  • The fourth coin struck in 2010;
  • Purchased from the US Mint within the first 30 days of public release;
  • Holds a USD 0.25 face value and legal tender status;
  • The standard obverse design features George Washington’s bust;
  • The reverse features the Grand Canyon National Park.

The Design

The obverse features George Washington's effigy, illustrated by John Flanagan in 1932, inspired by the former President’s official portrayal designed by William Cousins in 1786.

It includes the inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “LIBERTY,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and “QUARTER DOLLAR.”

The reverse showcases a view of the granaries above the Nankoweap Delta in Marble Canyon near the Colorado River, which were utilized for storing food and seeds between 1050 and 1150 A.D.

Inscriptions on this side read “GRAND CANYON,” “ARIZONA,” “2010,” and “E PLURIBUS UNUM.”

An NGC MS-69 “Early Releases” Coin

The Numismatic Guaranty Company (NGC) is globally acclaimed for evaluating and grading coins with the Sheldon Grading Scale, which rates coins from 1 to 70 based on their condition.

For NGC, “Early Releases” refer to coins purchased from the original mint within the first 30 days of their official release and taken to its appraisal.

MS stands for Mint State. Mint State coins are shaped as business coins. 69 is the grade attributed to coins whose flaws are almost invisible.
