2008-W 1 oz American Silver Eagle Burnished Coin with Box and COA
The American Eagle Program debuted in the numismatic world in 1986 by releasing a Silver Eagle bullion coin.
US Silver Eagles contain a full troy ounce of 99.9% fine silver and showcase a patriotic design signed by the legendary Adolph A. Weinman and John Mercanti, the 12th Chief Engraver of the US Mint.
In addition to the regular bullion versions, the U.S. Mint produces Proof and Burnished editions, offering the numismatic market unique, limited-edition pieces. These coins feature finer detailing and exceptional finishes, adding to their desirability.
The Burnished coins issued at the West Point branch bear the “W” mint mark. The blanks used in their making underwent a special treatment process called burnishing, which cleans them from undesired oxides. This results in a matte finish with more vivid design details.
SD Bullion sells 2008-W 1 oz Burnished American Silver Eagles housed in an original mint box and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.

The Design
On the obverse, the design showcases Lady Liberty with the American flag draped on her shoulder as she walks with an outstretched arm and carrying oak branches in the other.
The word “LIBERTY,” the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST,” the “W” West Point mint mark, and the year of issuance are part of the design.
The Heraldic Eagle featured on the reverse has 13 stars, representing the Thirteen Original Colonies, over its head. It also has the National Shield on its chest, arrows and olive branches in its talons, and a banner with "E PLURIBUS UNUM" in its beak.
Additional engravings inform denomination, weight, metal content, and purity, and read "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," "1 OZ FINE SILVER," and "ONE DOLLAR."
Burnished Coins
A Burnished American Eagle Coin results from a “burnishing” process, hence the name. It essentially means that the blanks are cleaned from all oxides formed during the annealing and rimming process. This way, burnished coins get a satin look and a smooth surface but less reflective luster than the Proof version.
