2006 NGC MS-70 1/4 oz American Gold Eagle Coin

The debut Gold Eagle of the American Eagle Program charmed the world with high gold content and emblematic designs signed by Augustus Saint-Gaundens and Miley Busiek.

Still in the premiere year, 1986, the US Mint added the 1 oz Gold Eagle with fractional options and varied finishes, including a fourth-ounce gold coin.

The 1/4 oz Gold Eagle is legal tender and USD 10 in denomination.

The Design

The obverse features Lady Liberty walking forward carrying a torch and an olive branch. It reflects the nation’s path to enlightenment and peace. It also contains the Capitol Building on the lower left and the year of issuance on the right.

The nesting Bald Eagles on the reverse side are accompanied by the engravings "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," the mottos "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "IN GOD WE TRUST," the coin’s face value of "10 DOLLARS" and "1/4 OZ FINE GOLD."
