The Design

The American Eagle Program rescued Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ 1907 20-dollar Double Eagle Coin design to the obverse of Gold Eagles.

Lady Liberty marches forward, carrying a torch and an olive branch, symbolizing the nation's progress toward peace and enlightenment. 

The imagery is supplemented by the word “LIBERTY,” the reproduction of the Capitol Building, and the coin’s mintage year.

The reverse is Miley Busiek's design, which depicts a female eagle cherishing its hatchling under her wing while the male one perches their nest. 

It contains the coin’s description of weight, metal content, and face value, which reads “1/2 OZ. FINE GOLD—25 DOLLARS.” Further inscriptions read “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, ” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” and “IN GOD WE TRUST.”
