The Design

The obverse portrays Lady Liberty walking forward to the future, as designed by Augustus Saint-Gaudens.

She carries a torch and an olive branch, showing light and peace to the outcome. The word “LIBERTY” arches over her, the year of mintage appears on her right side, and the US Capitol Building on her lower left.

The reverse illustrates a family of Bald Eagles, with a female eagle protecting its hatchling under her wing while the male eagle perches on their nest, as designed by Miley Busiek.

The inscriptions read "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," the mottos "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "IN GOD WE TRUST," and details about the coin's weight, metal content, and face value, which reads "1/10 OZ. FINE GOLD—5 DOLLARS."
