The Design

The obverse showcases Susanna Blunt’s portrait of Queen Elizabeth II. The usual engravings accompanying Her Majesty’s bust include her name, the Latin inscription “D.G.REGINA,” which translates to “By the grace of God, Queen,” and the coin’s face value of “10 DOLLARS.”

The reverse side is a creation of Celia Godkin. In the image, two leaves of sugar maple, hence the moniker, are imprinted with the artist’s initials and the coin’s mintage. The outer rim is engraved with the coin’s purity, metal content, and weight in French and English, reading “9999 FINE SILVER 2 OZ ARGENT PUR 9999.”
