The Design

John Mercanti portrayed the Heraldic Eagle reverse design. The Eagle, which has the American Great Seal on its chest, is beneath thirteen stars, representing the original Thirteen Colonies. It also carries arrows and olive branches in its talons and a banner with the motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM” on its beak. 

It includes the engravings “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “1 OZ FINE SILVER,” and “ONE DOLLAR,” referring to face value, weight, metal content, and purity.

On the obverse, Weinman designed Lady Liberty walking towards the sun, folded in the American flag. With her stretched arm, she greets the new immigrants with the oak and laurel branches she holds. The design includes the word “LIBERTY,” the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and the year of mintage complete the design.

Because it is a proof coin, its surfaces exhibit a mirror-like luster, which contrasts with the design’s frosted image.

A PCGS PR-69 Coin 

PCGS, which stands for Professional Coin Grading Service, is a renowned third-party service that assesses and grades coins using the Sheldon Scale, which ranges from 1 to 70.

According to the scale, PR stands for Proof Coin, indicating a coin produced for collection purposes, which exhibits mirror-like surfaces in contrast with frosted design elements. 69 is the grade attributed to coins whose flaws are almost invisible.
