The Design

On the reverse, Mercanti’s Heraldic Eagle was depicted with thirteen stars over its head, representing the original colonies, the Great Seal on its chest, arrows and olive branches on its talons, and a banner with the inscription “E PLURIBUS UNUM” on its beak. 

Information regarding face value, weight, metal content, and purity encircles the image and reads “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “1 OZ FINE SILVER,” and “ONE DOLLAR.”

Because it is a proof coin, its surfaces exhibit a mirror-like luster, which contrasts with the design’s frosted image.
