1995 PCGS PR-69 1 oz American Silver Eagle Proof Coin

1995 is a key date in the American Silver Eagles series, as it marked the 10th anniversary of the program.

Proof Silver Eagles were introduced right after the program’s premiere. They are one-ounce coins of 99.9% fine silver and showcase emblematic designs starring Lady Liberty and the Heraldic Eagle with a distinctive mirror-like luster.

The Design

The obverse reproduces the 1917 Half-Dollar Coin, designed by Weinman. In the image, Lady Liberty walks towards the sun, folded in the American flag, carrying oak and laurel branches. The inscriptions “LIBERTY,” the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and the year of mintage are also imprinted on the image.

The reverse was created by Mercati, the 12th Chief Egraver of the US Mint. The Heraldic Eagle is portrayed with thirteen stars over its head, representing the original Thirteen Colonies. The American Great Seal is on the eagle’s chest, arrows and olive branches are on its talons, and a banner with the inscription “E PLURIBUS UNUM” is on its beak. 

The inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “1 OZ FINE SILVER,” and “ONE DOLLAR” refer to the coin’s face value, weight, metal content, and purity.

Because it is a proof coin, its surfaces exhibit a mirror-like luster, which contrasts with the design’s frosted image.

A PCGS PR-69 Coin 

PCGS, which stands for Professional Coin Grading Service, is a renowned third-party service that evaluates and grades coins using the Sheldon Scale, which ranges from 1 to 70.

According to the scale, PR stands for Proof Coin, indicating a coin produced for collection purposes, which exhibits mirror-like surfaces in contrast with frosted design elements. 69 is the grade attributed to coins whose flaws are almost invisible.
