The Design

The obverse showcases Lady Liberty with the American flag draped on her shoulder, walking toward the sun's rays. She holds oak and laurel branches in one arm as she stretches the other in a welcome sign.

The engravings refer to the word “LIBERTY,” the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and the year of issuance.

The Heraldic Eagle is displayed on the reverse. It has 13 stars above its head, representing the Thirteen Original Colonies, the National Shield on its chest, arrows and olive branches on its talons, and a banner with the inscription “E PLURIBUS UNUM” on its beak. 

Encircling the image, read “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “1 OZ FINE SILVER,” and “ONE DOLLAR,” describing face value, weight, metal content, and purity.

Because it is a proof coin, its surfaces exhibit a mirror-like luster, which contrasts with the design’s frosted image.
