The 1943-P Silver Jefferson War Nickel is a unique piece of American history. The US Mint produced it during World War II, from 1942 to 1945, as part of a special series to conserve vital materials for the war effort. 

Struck from 35% silver instead of the usual copper-nickel alloy, this coin stands out for its valuable silver content and its role in supporting wartime production.

The Design

The reverse depicts Jefferson’s Monticello, his home in Virginia. The artistry includes the motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “ the distinctive “P” mintmark referring to the Philadelphia Mint, “MONTICELLO,” “FIVE CENTS,” and “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.”

NGC - Numismatic Guaranty Company is an independent third-party service that uses the Sheldon Grading Scale to appraise and grade coins according to their condition. The scale ranks coins from 1 to 70.

MS stands for mint state. It refers to a coin struck in the same format as a business circulation coin that remained uncirculated. Grade 66 indicates the coin may have contact marks and signs of wear and tear, but it is above average in quality of strike and preserved original mint luster.
