1914-S PCGS MS-62 $20 St.Gaudens Double Eagle Gold Coin

The Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle Gold Coin is a remarkable piece of American coinage history.

Designed by artist Augustus Saint-Gaudens, its iconic design later became a symbol of national pride, featured on the obverse of the US Gold Eagle.

This coin served as the official 20-dollar coin in the United States from 1907 to 1933. Coins minted in San Francisco bear the "S" mint mark, distinguishing them from those produced at other US Mint branches.

Today, SD Bullion sells 1914-S $20 St. Gaudens Double Eagle Gold Coins, graded by PCGS as MS-62 samples.

Coin Highlights

  • Evaluated, graded, and encapsulated as an MS-62 coin by PCGS;
  • Contains .9675 Troy oz of gold content;
  • Produced by the US Mint;
  • Issued in the San Francisco Mint and bears the “S” mint mark;
  • Bears a USD 20 denomination and legal tender status;
  • Pre-1933 American Gold Coin;
  • The obverse features Saint-Gaudens’ Liberty design;
  • The reverse displays the Bald Eagle.

The Design

The obverse depicts Lady Liberty walking forward carrying a torch and an olive branch, a symbol of the nation's future progress with enlightenment and peace.

The artistry is complemented by the word “LIBERTY” engraved on top, the Capitol Building imprinted on the lower left, and the year of issuance on the right.

The reverse displays the Bald Eagle flying above the sun accompanied by the inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and “TWENTY DOLLARS.”

A PCGS MS-62 Coin

PCGS - Professional Coin Grading Service works apart from sovereign mints. As a third-party service, it evaluates and grades coins using the Sheldon Scale. This scale rates coins from 1 to 70 based on their condition.

MS stands for Mint State, a coin issued as a business circulation one. Grade 62 suggests that the coin may present marks and hairlines in focal areas, noticeable scuff marks, and below-average planchet quality. But acceptable overall appearance.
