The $20 Liberty Double Eagle Gold Coin is a lasting symbol of American history and numismatic craftsmanship. 

The Liberty Double Eagle is both legal tender and a highly coveted gold coin. Struck by the U.S. Mint between 1850 and 1907, it carries a face value of $20 and contains 0.9675 Troy ounces of gold. 

Designed by James B. Longacre, the fourth Chief Engraver of the U.S. Mint, the distinctive portrayal of Lady Liberty and the Heraldic Eagle reflects the elegance and artistry of its time.

Those coins issued in the San Francisco Mint bear the “S” mint mark.

The Design

The obverse features Lady Liberty adorned with a tiara inscribed with “LIBERTY,” surrounded by thirteen six-pointed stars representing the original Thirteen Colonies, along with the year of minting. 

On the reverse, the Heraldic Eagle is depicted with wings spread, holding arrows in its talons, the national shield on its chest, and a banner with “E PLURIBUS UNUM” in its beak. The image is accompanied by the inscriptions “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and the coin's denomination, “TWENTY DOLLARS.”
