1879 PCGS AU-58 $5 Liberty Half Eagle Gold Coin
The US Mint produced the Liberty Half Eagle Gold Coins as the official $5 circulation coins from 1839 to 1908. Featuring an outstanding design by Christian Gobrecht, these coins contain .2419 troy ounces of gold bullion.
Because of the 1929 economic collapse, many $5 Liberty Half Eagle Gold Coins, similar to most Pre-1933 Gold Coins, were confiscated, hoarded, and melted down due to their gold content, severely decreasing the number of Liberty Half Eagle Gold Coins in the market.
Today, SD Bullion offers 1897 $5 Liberty Half Eagle Gold Coins, sealed and certified by PCGS as AU-58 samples.

The Design
On the obverse, Lady Liberty is depicted in a left-facing bust, adorned with a coronet inscribed with "LIBERTY." Surrounding her are thirteen stars, symbolizing the original Thirteen Colonies, with the year of mintage at the bottom rim.
The reverse features a Heraldic Eagle with the national shield on its chest, holding olive branches and arrows in its talons. Above the eagle's head, the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" is written on a banner.
Additionally, the reverse bears the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "FIVE D.," indicating the coin’s face value.
A PCGS AU-58 coin
Professional Coin Grading Service (PCGS) evaluates and grades coins from various mints worldwide using the Sheldon Grading Scale, which ranges from 1 to 70, assessing the coin's condition.
AU-58 stands for Almost or About Uncirculated and describes a coin in which almost all of the original mint luster remains preserved.
