1807 US Gold Early Date Draped Bust Half Eagle PCGS MS-62 $5 Coin
This coin is interesting because it was struck in a transitional year where both this Draped Bust were struck along with the new Capped Bust.
This early gold piece is far more scarce than the Capped Bust and only 32,488 examples were produced.
The vast majority were circulated and surviving examples in Mint State Condition after two centuries are a prize to behold. Thomas Jefferson was the third President when this coin left the Philadelphia mint and clearly, many generations of collectors have preserved this magnificent piece for the last 217 years.
With the USA’s 250th anniversary less than two years away, these early pieces will likely be much harder to find.
