The US Mint celebrates the 250th anniversary of the Nation’s independence by releasing a commemorative silver coin.

2026 Silver Eagles are being released with a dual-date inscription and a Liberty Bell mintmark, enhanced by a proof finish.

These Proof Silver Eagles, in particular, were purchased from the US Mint on the first day of their official release, submitted to NGC appraisal, and sealed in NGC’s Black Core with Paul Hollis Label. As the 41st Director of the United States Mint, Paul Hollis brings a rare collector-driven perspective to the role.

The Design

The obverse portrays Adolph A. Weinman’s Walking Liberty design, first used on the 1917 Half Dollar coin. 

In the image, Lady Liberty walks with the American flag draped on her shoulder and oak branches on her left arm. With her right arm stretched out, she welcomes those seeking a home on American soil. It is engraved with the word “LIBERTY” on top,  “IN GOD WE TRUST” aside.

The Liberty Bell, marked with the number '250,' appears on the right, with '1776-2026' inscribed at the bottom.

The reverse depicts a bald eagle perched on a branch, representing America’s enduring spirit. Inscriptions describing weight, metal content, and purity read “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “ONE DOLLAR,” “1 OZ,” and “FINE SILVER.”

An NGC PF-70 First Day of Issue Coin 

NGC (Numismatic Guaranty Company) works independently from sovereign mints to certify coins using the Sheldon Scale, which ranks coins from 1 to 70.

NGC considers “First Day of Issue” a coin purchased from its original mint on the first day of its official release and submitted to its appraisal.

PF stands for Proof Coin, indicating a coin produced for collection purposes, which exhibits mirror-like surfaces in contrast with frosted design elements.
