The Design

This minted ingot has a squared shape, design elements engraved on both sides, rounded corners, reeded edges, and smooth adorned surfaces.

The obverse, designed by Mary Gillick, portrays a young Queen Elizabeth II. Her Majesty’s bust is encircled by the words “THE QUEEN’S BEASTS” and Jody Clark’s illustrations of the related heraldic figures.

The reverse contains the Royal Mint’s log and engravings that inform weight, metal content, and purity reading “1 oz 999.9 FINE GOLD,” followed by a unique serial number.

The Queen’s Beasts 

The Queen’s Beasts are ten heraldic creatures representing Queen Elizabeth II's royal heritage. Originally appearing as statues outside Westminster Abbey during her 1953 coronation, they symbolize centuries of English and Scottish royal arms. Many of these legendary figures were inspired by the stone sculptures at Hampton Court Palace, reflecting the power of Henry VIII and the House of Tudor.

In 2015, The Royal Mint reintroduced these historic beasts through an exquisite gold, silver, and platinum coin collection. Renowned designer Jody Clark crafted ten intricate designs, ensuring their legacy remains alive in numismatics.
