The Design

The reverse carries a lot of symbolism in its Maple Leaf design. Stan Witten created the illustration, which showcases the rendition of three types of maple leaves sharing the same stem as a symbol of the nation's diversity and multi-ethnic roots.

The inscriptions engraved over the radial lines that compose the Mint’s anticounterfeiting measures refer to the country’s name, year of issuance, purity, metal content, and weight.

A discreet sugar maple leaf privy mark is on the lower right, micro-engraved with the last two digits of the year of issuance.

The obverse design features Susana Blunt’s depiction of Queen Elizabeth II surrounded by “ELIZABETH II,” “D.G.REGINA” in Latin, which translates to “by the grace of God, Queen,” and the coin’s face value of “150 DOLLARS.”
