The US Mint first introduced American Gold Eagle coins in 1986, along with its silver counterpart, the American Silver Eagle.
Gold Eagles are the official gold bullion coins in the US, weighing 1 Troy oz of 22k gold and holding legal tender status. Their design is the object of pride and reflects the American core values.
These 2024 1 oz American Gold Eagle Coins, available now from SD Bullion, are certified as MS-70 coins and sealed in PCGS slabs. They also received the “First Strike” label, indicating they were struck in the first 30 days of mintage in the US Mint.

The Design
The obverse reproduces Augustus Saint-Gaudens’ 1907 20-dollar Double Eagle Coin design. It features Lady Liberty marching forward, carrying a torch and an olive branch, symbolizing the nation's evolution to progress, peace, and enlightenment.
The Capitol Building is on the lower left, the word “LIBERTY” is engraved on top, and the coin’s mintage year, in Roman letters, is on the right.
The reverse design was created by Jennie Norris and introduced in the Gold Eagle coin in 2021 as a design update for the 35th anniversary of the American Eagle Program.
It showcases the majestic bald eagle in a close-up depiction with a deep gaze and highlighted hooked beak.
The inscriptions correspond to the mottos "E PLURIBUS UNUM" and "IN GOD WE TRUST," the nation’s name "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," while "50 DOLLARS 1 OZ. FINE GOLD" describes the coin’s face value, weight, and metal content.

The PCGS - Professional Coin Grading Service appraises and grades coins, independently from sovereign mints, using the Sheldon Grading Scale, which ranks coins based on their condition, from 1 to 70.
A First Strike coin refers to coins manufactured within the first 30 days of the Mint’s release. MS stands for Mint State and describes a widespread circulation coin that has never been in circulation. 70 is the highest on the scale and is attributed to a flawless coin.
