The US Mint produced millions of Liberty Eagle gold coins from 1838 to 1907 because they served as the $10 circulation currency in the US in that period.

To meet market demands, the Philadelphia Mint alone, delivered over 2.4 million $10 Liberty Eagle Coins in 1894.

$10 Liberty Eagle Gold Coins contain .4837 oz of actual gold content and feature Christian Gobrecht’s designs.

Like other Pre-1933 Gold Coins, many were hoarded and melted down during the Great Depression because of their content, which severely decreased the number of $10 Liberty Eagle Gold Coins in the numismatic world.

The Design

The $10 Liberty Eagle Gold Coin is also known as the “Coronet Eagle Gold Coin” because it depicts Lady Liberty wearing a coronet engraved with the word “LIBERTY.”

Thirteen stars, representing the Thirteen Original Colonies, surround Liberty’s bust, and the year of mintage is displayed at the bottom.

On the reverse side, the Heraldic Eagle has the national shield on its chest, arrows and oak branches on its talons, and the motto “IN GOD WE TRUST” inscribed on a banner above the eagle. The word “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” and the coin’s face value inscribed as “TEN D.” encircle the whole image.
