NGC/PCGS MS-69 1/4 oz American Gold Eagle Coin - Random Year
The US Mint first released the American Gold Eagle coins in 1986. In addition to the debuting 1 troy oz gold coin, the series delivered three other size options, broadening the collection: 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz.
The 1/4 oz American Gold Eagle is a 22-karat gold coin with legal tender status and a face value of $ 10 US Dollars. Like other Gold Eagles, it stamps the iconic Saint Gaudens design and the Bald Eagle, symbols of American endurance.
Today, you can purchase 1/4 oz American Gold Eagle Coins from SD Bullion. These coins are certified as MS-69 by either NGC or PCGS and have varied mint years, which are randomly selected at the time of shipping.

The Obverse Design
The obverse displays Lady Liberty marching forward, carrying a torch and an olive branch. The march symbolizes the nation's progress in search of peace and enlightenment.
The word “LIBERTY” is engraved on the upper rim. The Capitol Building is on the lower left, and the coin’s mintage year is on the right.
Reverse Design Type 1
The first reverse design, designed by Miley Busiek, showcases a family of Bald Eagles. In the image, a female eagle cherishes her hatchling under her wing while the male eagle perches on their nest.
The word “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” is engraved on top, “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and “IN GOD WE TRUST” are aside. Information regarding weight, metal content, and face value reads “1/4 OZ. FINE GOLD—10 DOLLARS.”
Reverse Design Type 2
In 2021, the US Mint unveiled a new reverse design, created by Jennie Norris, to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the American Eagle Program.
Norris’ design showcases the majestic bald eagle in a close-up depiction with a deep gaze and highlighted hooked beak.
The update retained the same inscriptions from the original design: the words “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” the mottos “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and “IN GOD WE TRUST,” weight, metal content, and face value described as “1/4 OZ. FINE GOLD—10 DOLLARS.”
An NGC or PCGS MS-69 Coin
PCGS - Professional Coin Grading Service and NGC - Numismatic Guaranty Company work independently from sovereign mints, appraising and grading coins according to the Sheldon Grading Scale.
For both services, an MS-Mint State designation means that a particular coin has the same format as a business coin, which remained uncirculated. Grade 69 is attributed to almost perfect coins with unnoticeable flaws.
