The Obverse Design
Lady Liberty, created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, features the obverse side, reproducing the 20-dollar Double Eagle Coin design.
In the image, she is marching forward, carrying a torch and an olive branch. The march symbolizes the nation's evolution to progress, peace, and enlightenment. The word “LIBERTY” is engraved on the upper rim. The Capitol Building is on the lower left, and the coin’s mintage year is on the right.
Reverse Design Type 1
Type 1 refers to the original reverse design. This image features a family of Bald Eagles, with a female eagle cherishing its hatchling under her wing while the male perches on their nest.
The image is supplemented by the engravings “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” the mottos “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and the coin’s description of weight, metal content, and face value reading “1 OZ. FINE GOLD—50 DOLLARS.”
Reverse Design Type 2
Type 2 corresponds to the design update of 2021, which celebrates the 35th anniversary of the American Eagles Program. Jennie Norris showcased the majestic bald eagle in a close-up depiction with a deep gaze, highlighted hooked beak, and the same inscriptions of the original design.
