The Design

The obverse portrays Lady Liberty walking forward with the sun's rays in the background. She holds a torch and an olive branch, symbolizing development, light, and peace. 

The word “LIBERTY” engraved at the top, the year of issuance at the lower right, and the US Capitol Building imprinted at the lower left complete the design.

The reverse depicts the Bald Eagle in a frontal close-up, highlighting its hooked beak and a staring gaze. 

It also features the coin’s face value, weight, and metal content, which are inscribed as “5 DOLLARS” and “1/10 OZ FINE GOLD.” Additional engravings read “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” and “IN GOD WE TRUST.”
