The US Gold Eagle was introduced as a 22k gold coin weighing a full troy oz of gold, making it slightly larger than traditional one-ounce gold coins. The alloy contains 3% silver and 5,33% copper for added durability.

The Coin’s Design

The obverse reproduces the 1907 $20 Double Eagle design created by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, especially taken to be imprinted on Gold Eagles.

In the image, Lady Liberty’s march forward, carrying a torch and an olive branch, symbolizes the nation's way to progress, peace, and enlightenment.

Engravings include the words “LIBERTY,” the Capitol Building, and the coin’s mintage year.

The reverse design by Jennie Norris commemorates the 35th Anniversary of the American Eagle Program.

It showcases the Bald Eagle in a left-profile close-up with a hooked beak and a staring gaze. It also contains the coin’s essential information engraved as “50 DOLLARS” and “1 OZ FINE GOLD.” 

The words “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” and the mottos “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and “IN GOD WE TRUST” complete the design.

The MintCertified™ Sealed Tube houses 20 units of 1 oz US Gold Eagle Coins, totaling 20 troy ounces of 22k gold.
