2025 PCGS MS-70 First Day of Issue 1 oz American Gold Buffalo Coin - Flag Label
The first 24-carat gold coin produced by the US Mint was an American Gold Buffalo in 2006.
Its remarkable design honors American heritage by stamping James Earle Fraser's iconic Native American chief on the obverse and a mighty American Bison that resembles a Buffalo on the reverse. Hence, the coin’s moniker.
These coins, in particular, are Gold Buffalos from the 2025 edition. They were purchased from the US Mint on the first day of their public release and sealed by PCGS with its Flag Label.
The Flag Label used by PCGS (Professional Coin Grading Service) is a special design featured on their coin certification holders. This label typically includes the United States flag, the coin's grade, certification details, and unique serial number.
SD Bullion offers 2025 1 oz American Gold Buffalo Coins graded by PCGS as MS-70 First Day of Issue coins and sealed with the Flag Label.

The Design
The refined version of the 1913 Indian Head Nickel, designed by James Earle Fraser, features the obverse. It depicts a right-facing portrait of a Native American, combining features from notable tribal figures, including Big Tree, Iron Tail, and Two Moons.
Around the outer rim are inscriptions: "LIBERTY" near the forehead, the mintage year, and an "F" at the lower left, signifying Fraser's initials.
The reverse showcases a standing American Bison accompanied by the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "E PLURIBUS UNUM," which arch above the animal. The motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" appears near its muzzle. Beneath the bison are details indicating the coin’s denomination, weight, metal content, and purity, reading "$50," "1 OZ .9999 FINE GOLD."
A PCGS MS-70 First Day of Issue coin
PCGS (Professional Coins Grading Service) appraises and certifies coins using the Sheldon Grading Scale, which ranks coins from 1 to 70.
PCGS considers a “First Day of Issue” coin a sample purchased from its original mint on the first day of its official release and submitted to its appraisal.
MS stands for Mint State, indicating a coin crafted in the format of a business circulation coin. Since it has never been in circulation, the coin has no flaws, which grants it a 70 grade.
