The Design

The obverse is an enhanced rendition of the Indian Head Nickel, initially released in 1913 and crafted by James Earle Fraser. 

It depicts a right-facing portrait of a Native American, created by merging features from several tribes, including Big Tree, Iron Tail, and Two Moons. 

The outer rim bears the inscription "LIBERTY" near the Native American’s forehead, the mintage year, and an "F" representing the artist’s initials in the lower left corner.

The reverse features a majestic American Bison standing, which inspired the coin’s name. 

The inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and the motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM" arch above the bison, with "IN GOD WE TRUST" placed near its muzzle. 

Beneath the bison are details about the coin’s weight, metal content, fineness, and face value, reading: "$50," "1 OZ .9999 FINE GOLD."

NGC - Numismatic Guaranty Company appraises and grades coins using the Sheldon Scale, which ranges from 1 to 70, apart from sovereign mints.

NGC considers an “Early Release” coin purchased from its original mint within 30 days of public release and submitted to NGC appraisal.

MS abbreviates for Mint State and refers to coins crafted in the same format as a circulation coin that has never circulated. 70 is the highest grade, awarded to coins that do not present visible flaws.
