The Design

The obverse features Adolph A. Weinman's historic "Walking Liberty" design, issued initially on the Half-Dollar coin from 1916 to 1947. 

Lady Liberty walks, with the sun rising in the background, enveloped in the American flag, carrying oak branches, symbolizing the country’s desire for peace with a spirit for freedom and progress. 

The inscription "LIBERTY," the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST," and the year of mintage are displayed in the design.

The reverse is Emily Damstra's rendition of a bald eagle in its natural habitat. The inscriptions on this side include the country’s name "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," the face value "ONE DOLLAR," the weight "1 OZ. FINE SILVER," and the motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM."
