The first release of 2025 introduces St. Michael the Archangel and St. Joseph as the inaugural Patron Saints.

St. Michael the Archangel is venerated as the protector of soldiers, police officers, paramedics, and the military, embodying courage, justice, and divine protection. He is prominently featured in Revelation 12:7-12, where he leads the heavenly forces against Satan, casting him out of heaven and stripping him of his role as accuser before God. By the late medieval period, St. Michael had become a patron of chivalry, symbolizing strength and righteousness in the face of adversity.

This coin, in particular, is a proof coin enhanced by a colorized design. It contains 1 Troy oz of .999 fine silver and holds legal tender status in the Republic of Ghana through a 5 cedis denomination.

The Design

The series’ standard reverse design showcases King Charles III’s bust, signed by Jody Clark. It is surrounded by the inscriptions: “CHARLES III · REPUBLIC OF GHANA · 5 CEDIS · 2025 · 1oz .999 SILVER,” which describes the nation that ensures the coin’s legal tender status, face value, mintage, weight, purity, and metal content.

The obverse illustrates a colorized version of St. Michael the Archangel standing against a heavenly backdrop. His powerful presence looms behind a miniature soldier, symbolizing divine protection on the battlefield. The decorated outer rim is engraved with “ST. MICHAEL THE ARCHANGEL.” 

Because it is a proof coin, its surfaces exhibit a mirror-like luster while the design elements imprinted on them are matte, making an interesting contrast.
