2024-W PCGS SP-70 First Day of Issue 1 oz American Gold Eagle Burnished Coin
American Gold Eagles are among the most coveted gold coins in the market. They are 22k gold pieces and the United States’ official gold bullion coin. The US Mint introduced them in 1986, along with their counterpart, the Silver Eagle Coin, as the debuting coins of the American Eagles Program.
The Gold Eagles collection is vast and comprises 22k gold coins of fractional sizes and varied finishes.
These coins, in particular, are burnished versions, struck in the West Point branch, and carry the “W” mint mark. Their blanks underwent a special treatment process called burnishing, which cleans them from undesired oxides, resulting in a matte finish with more vivid design details.
Today, SD Bullion is offering 2024-W 1 oz Burnished American Gold Eagles, taken among those available for purchase in the US Mint on day #1, sealed in PCGS slabs and graded as SP-70 samples.

Lady Liberty marches forward on the obverse side, carrying a torch and an olive branch, symbolizing the nation's evolution toward progress, peace, and enlightenment.
The image also displays the Capitol Building, the word “LIBERTY,” and the coin’s mintage year. The “W” mint mark is on the right.
The reverse bald eagle was depicted in a close-up depiction with a deep gaze and a highlighted hooked beak.
The information accompanying the image read “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” the mottos “E PLURIBUS UNUM” and “IN GOD WE TRUST,” and “1 OZ. FINE GOLD—50 DOLLARS,” informing weight, metal content, and face value.
Burnished Coins
A Burnished American Eagle Coin results from a “burnishing” process, hence the name. It essentially means that the blanks are cleaned from all oxides formed during the annealing and rimming process. This way, burnished coins get a satin look and a smooth surface but less reflective luster than Proof American Eagles.
