The Design

The obverse features Adolph A. Weinman's “Winged Liberty,” designed to be on the Mercury Dime coin.

In the artistry, Lady Liberty wears a winged Phrygian cap and is surrounded by the word “LIBERTY.”

The obverse also includes the motto  “IN GOD WE TRUST,” the artist's initials, the year of mintage, and the “W” mint mark from the West Point branch.

The reverse was inspired by the 1907 American Institute of Architects Gold Medal reverse. It showcases a Bald Eagle perched on a cliff edge, holding a branch. 

The inscriptions on this side include “UNITED STATES of AMERICA,” the coin’s face value “$25,” the weight and purity “1 OZ Pd .9995 FINE,” and the motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM.”
