The Design

As the Maple Leaf Coins usually stamp the effigy of the British Commonwealth’s leader, the obverse that has long showcased Queen Elizabeth II now depicts King Charles III.

The official portrait consists of a left-profile bust encircled by “CHARLES III,” “50 DOLLARS,” and the year of issuance, as the series’ standard suggests.

The reverse exhibits the Canadian national symbol that names the series: the maple leaf. The inscriptions on the outer rim refer to the coin’s origin, metal content, purity, and weight: “CANADA,” “9999,” “FINE GOLD,” “1 OZ,” and “OR PUR,” in English and French.
