In 2024, the Australian Perth Mint prepared a special edition to celebrate the 125th Anniversary of its foundation.

This commemorative strike consists of limited-struck gold, platinum, and silver one-ounce coins featuring the Perth Mint’s contemporary most famous coin collections: the Kookaburra, the Koala, and the Kangaroo on the reverse.

The Perth Mint's foundation dates back to 1899 in Western Australia. During the gold rush in the country, the mint’s operations were based on refining and coining sovereign currency, which over the years benefitted the national economic development. Nowadays, the Perth Mint is responsible for producing Australia’s legal tender precious metal coins.

The Silver 125th Anniversary coins are limited to 150,000 units. They contain 1 Troy Oz of 99.99% pure silver and an exclusive mint mark for the occasion, the “P125.”

The Design

Dan Thorne is the artist responsible for King Charles III’s portrait on the obverse. His Majety’s effigy is surrounded by the inscriptions “CHARLES III,” “AUSTRALIA,” and “1 DOLLAR.”

The reverse design showcases the motifs for the Perth Mint’s most famous coin series: the Koala, the Kangaroo, and the Kookaburra amid golden wattle, Australia’s national floral emblem. The banner at the bottom refers to the mint’s anniversary and reads: “1899 THE PERTH MINT 2024,”

The coin’s mintage, weight, metal content, and purity are inscribed on top: “2024 1 oz 9999 SILVER.” The Pert Mint’s 125th Anniversary is on the left, identified through the “P125” mint mark.
