2023 NGC MS-70 King Charles III Coronation Gold 2-Coin Set
In honor of His Majesty King Charles III's coronation, the Royal Mint prepared very limited editions of special themed gold coins. This historical moment is a landmark because it is the first British coronation in the twenty-first century.
The Coronation Gold Coin weighs 1 Troy oz of 99.99% pure gold and features designs created by Martin Jennings and John Bergdahl.
To make an alluring coin set, the Royal Mint added a second gold coin. It is a 99.99% pure gold one-ounce Britannia Coin featuring Nathan Philip’s Britannia and Martins Jenning’s crowned effigy of King Charles III.
Today, SD Bullion offers the 2023 King Charles III Coronation Gold 2-Coin Set with King Charles III’s effigy, sealed and certified by NGC as perfect MS-70 coins.

The Obverse
The obverse design is common to both coins. It presents the effigy of King Charles III, designed by Martin Jenning.
His Majesty’s crowned bust is encircled by the inscriptions “CHARLES III,” “D.G.F.REX.F.D,” “100 POUNDS,” and “2023," representing the King’s name, the Latin phrase “By the grace of God, King,” the coin’s face value, and the year of issuance, respectively.
The Coronation Reverse Design
The reverse, designed by John Bergdahl, showcases the Royal Arms, surrounded by the engravings “THE CORONATION OF KING CHARLES III 6 MAY 2023.”
The Britannia Reverse Design
The reverse showcases Britannia, a national feminine personification whose use in the national coinage dates back to 1672. The current design, created by artist Philip Nathan in 1987, depicts Britannia as a warrior, wearing a helmet, carrying her trident and the Union Jack Shield against the sea and the wind.
The inscriptions encircling the image are: “‘BRITANNIA’ 2023’ 1 oz’ 999.9’ FINE’ GOLD’”, referring to the series name, issuance, weight, purity, and metal content.
It also contains the Royal Mint’s exclusive security features. Britannia’s trident turns to a padlock on the lower left as you change the angle of view; the waves imprinted in the background gain movement as you move the coin. And finally, the micro-text engravings around the image - “DECUS ET TUTAMEN” means an ornament and a safeguard.
An NGC MS-70 Coin
NGC - Numismatic Guaranty Company appraises and grades coins independently from sovereign mints. It uses the Sheldon Scale, which ranges from 1 to 70.
MS abbreviates for Mint State and refers to coins crafted in the same format as a circulation coin that has never circulated. 70 is the highest grade, awarded to coins that do not present visible flaws.
