2023 1/10 oz Canadian Gold Maple Leaf Coins
Released in 1979, the first Gold Maple Leaf faced hard competition to conquer its space in the bullion market. Some renowned gold coins, like the South African Krugerrand and the Austrian 100 Corona, were already solid options among investors.
The high levels of gold content and the modern techniques applied to mint the Canadian Maple Leafs soon brought these coins to the spotlight.
The celebrated 1 oz Gold Maple Leaf got fractional sizes of ½ oz, ¼ oz, 1/10 oz, 1/20 oz, and a standard 99.99% gold fineness.
Since then, the Royal Canadian Mint has struck the whole collection of Gold Maple Leaf coins annually, pleasing investors and collectors who never miss the chance to diversify their investment portfolios with bullion.
Coin Highlights
- Contains 1/10 oz of the finest .9999 gold;
- Face value of 5 Canadian Dollars and legal tender status backed by the Federal Government;
- Exclusive and advanced anticounterfeit measures;
- Susanna Blunt’s effigy of Queen Elizabeth II stamps the obverse;
- Walter Ott's Sugar Maple Leaf design features on the reverse.
The Design
The obverse depicts a more mature version of Queen Elizabeth II. Her bust showcases the coinage of all nations belonging to the British Commonwealth, of which she is the leader. The inscriptions surrounding the image are: “ELIZABETH II,” 5 DOLLARS,” and mint year.
The reverse contains the Sugar Maple Leaf design, a Canadian symbol. On the upper rim, the engravings correspond to the coin’s weight, metal content, and purity, written in the two official languages of Canada: English and French. They read: “CANADA,” “9999,” “FINE GOLD,” “1/10 OZ,” “OR PUR,” and “9999.”
The RCM
Founded as a branch of the Royal London Mint, the Royal Canadian Mint got stronger when Canada became an independent nation. The internal demand allied to the international production brought experience, and the mint fastly became one of the most respected mints worldwide.
The Bullion DNA
The investments in modern techniques provided the RCM with exclusive knowledge regarding anticounterfeit measures. The RCM Bullion DNA is one of them. Through this method, the coins receive an individual string of codes registered in the company’s database and readable only in specific scanners, ensuring the uniqueness of each coin.
