The Design

The program’s 35th anniversary in 2021 was celebrated with a new reverse design.

Jennie Norris portrayed the majestic Eagle in a left-profile close-up, with a hooked beak and a deep staring eye. 

The engravings “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” and “IN GOD WE TRUST” are vertically lined up, while face value, weight, and metal content are at the bottom and read “10 DOLLARS” and “1/4 OZ FINE GOLD.”

The obverse maintained Saint Gaudens’ original creation, in which Lady Liberty walks forward with the sun rays in her background, the word “LIBERTY” above her, and the Capitol Building on her lower left. Her march ahead represents the nation heading to the future, looking for light and peace. The year of mintage is on the lower right.
