When manufacturing each gold eagle coin, the US Mint utilizes one ounce of pure gold. The purity of a Gold Eagle is 22-karat gold.
On these coins, the MS-69 rating means that they are almost flawless, but they do have slight imperfections that can be identified by magnification. Although a grade of MS-69 is more common than a grade of MS-70, only about 3 percent of all 1 oz gold eagles are graded as MS-69, so you can rest assured that these coins are still very collectible.
The obverse design shows a torch in Lady Liberty's left hand and an olive branch in her right, boldly striding ahead. The coin's rim is lined with six-pointed stars. With the word "LIBERTY" at the very top of the coin, 2021 will be minted to the right of it.
The new reverse design was announced in October of 2020 and is to be implemented in the second half of 2021. It was created by artist Jennie Norris, and sculpted by the US Mint medallic artist Renata Gordon. It is composed of a simple, yet highly detailed, portrait of a bald eagle’s head, intensely staring ahead. Inscriptions are “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” “E PLURIBUS UNUM,” “IN GOD WE TRUST,” “50 DOLLARS,” and “1 OZ. FINE GOLD.” Mint Artistic Infusion Program (AIP) designer Jennie Norris created the sculpted Mint Medallic Artist Renata Gordon design.
