As the first Perth Silver Koala Coin was issued in 2007 by the Perth Mint, the 2021 Silver Australian Koala is the 14th coin in this famous line.
The Australian Perth Mint was established in 1899. It was not until 1970 that the mint came under the authority of the Western Australian Government. The Perth Mint is one of the only government mints in the world still operating at its original location.
The 2021 Silver Koala features a side profile by royal mint artist Jody Clark of Queen Elizabeth II as denoted by the "JC" initials that can be seen in the profile's bottom left corner. The words "ELIZABETH II AUSTRALIA" as well as the monetary denomination of the "1 DOLLAR" coin are written along the border of the coin.
On the reverse of the coin is the new koala design for 2021. This year the coin shows a sleeping Koala resting on a tree branch. The words “AUSTRALIAN KOALA” are inscribed above the image and the “P” mintmark of the Perth Mint can also be seen here. Along the bottom of the coin is the inscription “2021 1oz 9999 SILVER”.
