The Design

The obverse portrays an elegant effigy of Queen Elizabeth II, designed by Susan Blunt, encircled by the engravings: “ELIZABETH II,” “D·G·REGINA,” which in Latin translates to “By the grace of God, Queen,” and “2 DOLLARS,” referring to the coin’s face value.

On the reverse, a red-tailed hawk in mid-flight, wings fully extended, showcases the intricate detailing of its feathers and dynamic posture. The talons are visible, suggesting the hawk is in hunting mode or just about to land.

The inscriptions on the border refer to the coin’s origin, year of issuance, metal content, fineness, and weight. They are written in English and French and read: “CANADA 2021,” “FINE SILVER 1/2 OZ ARGENT PUR.”

The design also displays the coin’s fineness by “9999”, and a micro-laser-engraved maple leaf engraved with the number “21”  denoting the coin’s year of issue, visible under magnification.

Both sides feature a radial-lined textured background that works as a security measure and enhances the coin’s design.
